November 17th is World Prematurity Day, created to raise public awareness on the issue of premature births and the difficulties that young patients and their families have to face. Pursuing the mission of satisfying everyone's dietary needs, Very serene restaurant also responds to the needs of these creatures, managing the Donated Human Milk Bank Service (BLUD) - Lactarium at the Padua Hospital.
According to data from the CeDAP 2021 Report, in Italy alone there are over 25.000 premature newborns every year, i.e. 6,4% of the total births. This is a delicate condition that requires special attention and specific care to ensure they have the best chance of growth and development. The first and only fundamental food in this phase is breast milk. In some cases, however, breastfeeding is not possible. It is in this circumstance that Milk Banks become very important allies, as they allow the newborn to benefit from the same nutritional intake and the same immune defenses that he would receive if breast-fed.
Very serene restaurant recognizes the essential role of human milk in the very early stages of life, especially in conditions of prematurity or in the presence of certain pathologies. For this reason he created the first Lactarium, commonly known as the Human Milk Bank (BLUD), for the Padua Hospital. In particular, the Group is responsible for selecting, collecting, checking, treating, storing and distributing donated human milk.
After receiving breast milk, delivered at a temperature between -18° and -4°, Very serene restaurant monitors the temperature to verify that it complies with the requirements required by law for its distribution, and then places it in special refrigerators to ensure its conservation. The next phase involves preparation and pasteurization, which takes place following communication from the hospitals on the quantity and type of milk needed. The bottles, once hermetically sealed and pasteurized, are placed in thermal crates and delivered to the hospital departments.
Through the Lactarium, Very serene restaurant thus takes part in providing vital support for premature babies who cannot latch on to the breast.
